How to Change a Kirby Vacuum Bag

Is it time to replace the bag in your Kirby Vacuum? Confused on where to start? Today we’ll go over the different styles of bags and how to change them on your vacuum.

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

“G” Style Generic Bag

The first step is to unzip the outer cloth bag.

Then pull out the fill tube to expose the inner bag.

Simply detach it from the fill tube!

Throw the old bag away and get your new bag. We will start with a generic bag, which has tabs as shown above.

You need to push the bag on until it goes past the tabs on the fill tube.

You may find it helpful to grab the bag by the top of the connection piece.

As you’re putting it on, give it a good twist and it should go on all the way. Once it’s on just tuck the bag back in the outer cloth bag and zip it up!

“G” Style Genuine Bag

If you’re using a genuine bag you’ll notice that it has tab slots. These make installation a breeze!

Just line the tab slots up with the tabs on the fill tube, push it on, and twist!

“F” Style Genuine Bag

Unzip the outer cloth bag and pull the inner bag out. You’ll notice that the F series has a tab. Since you’re throwing this bag away it’s fine to rip it off.

We’ll be starting with the genuine Kirby bag, which fits all models.

The tab on the top of the connector helps it fit the F series vacuums by folding over the clips on top of the fill tube.

Push the bag onto the fill tube, make sure the bag goes past the clip on the bottom, then fold down the tab on the top. Then put the inner bag back into the outer cloth bag, zip it up, and you’re good to go!

“F” series Generic Bag

The generic bag works with the same concept as the genuine. Start by pushing it on.

Then make sure the bottom clip goes over the bottom of the bag connection. Then tuck it away and zip the outer bag up. You're ready to get back to vacuuming!
