Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.

#1 – Blower/ Inflator

Rainbow vacuums can be used to blow of inflate simply by attaching the hose to the exhaust side! This is great for cleaning keyboards or dusting furniture and delicate electronics.

You can also use to clean places like automotive interiors and your engine bay.

Your Rainbow vacuum can also be used to quickly inflate air mattresses, beachballs, and inner tubes.

#2 – Wet and Dry Pickup

Rainbows are great for picking up pretty much anything – like spilled milk or water.

#3 – Air Purifying Mode

Rainbow vacuums are also great at cleaning air. They have HEPA and water filtration and are one of the best air purifiers on the market.

#4 – Pet Hair and Stair Cleaning

These vacuums are also great for cleaning up pet hair because of their excellent filtration and huge array of attachments.

One of the attachments is the Rainbow Mini Head, which is great for cleaning stairs without having to carry a heavy vacuum up and down.

#5 – Shampooing

With a few additional steps you can transform your Rainbow vacuum into a shampooing machine.  You can clean anything from low pile carpet to high pile carpet, tile, and any other water-safe hard floor surface. You can also easily transition from multiple surfaces to the next without needing to switch attachments.

Need to clean upholstery or auto interiors? There’s a hand held shampooer that is perfect for that!

How to Replace a Kirby Vacuum Hose End

Is your Kirby tool hose not attaching properly to the vacuum body? It may be due to a broken or worn out Hose End. Today we show you how to easily replace that old end piece.

  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Tools

  • Needle nose pliers

Instructions

The first thing you will want to do is inspect your hose end. Check the long tab that engages the safety switch, the two hooks, and the three slots inside. If any of those are damaged, you will need to replace your hose end.

To remove the old hose end take your needle nose pliers and grab the rubber lip on the inside.

Then twist to the side. This will create a gap.

Now, push the needle nose pliers further into the gap and twist more, until the rubber lip folds in on itself.

At this point you can take your other hand and press up on the hose end while you press the other direction with the pliers and they should come apart.

To get the new hose end on you will do the same thing. Take your needle nose pliers and twist the rubber part.

Hold the rubber piece with your hand and slide the new hose end over it.

Once it’s on you’ll notice that the rubber piece is still bent.

Simple take your finger and press it back out! You’re done!

My Rainbow won't turn on! Broken water bowl tabs and other common problems.

Are you having trouble getting your Rainbow E Series vacuum to turn on? Today we go over a few common problems that may keep your Rainbow from working the way it should.

  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Tools

  • A screwdriver

Instructions

This video works for ALL Rainbow E series vacuum cleaners!

The first thing you’ll want to do is take off your water bowl. To do this release the latches and lift off.

You’ll notice on the water bowl that there is a tab that sticks up about half an inch. The edges should all be nice and smooth, so if yours has any jagged edges it’s broken and you’ll have to replace your water bowl.

If that’s good and the rest of your water bowl looks good, including the areas where the latches fit, then your water bowl likely isn’t the problem.

Before putting the water bowl back on take a look at the latches. If those are cracked or broken in any way the water bowl probably isn’t getting latched tight enough which will also cause the vacuum to not turn on.

If you look underneath you will see a safety switch. This gets pressed by the water bowl when it’s latched in place. It has to be pressed for the vacuum to turn on!

So, let’s check this switch! You will need to be super careful, because the middle of the vacuum will spin very fast when you turn it on! Keep your hands and anything else clear of that whole area.

Plug your vacuum in, press the safety switch, and turn it on. If your vacuum turns on you know the safety switch is functioning so the problem is with the water bowl.

Once you’ve checked all of those parts, go ahead and reattach your water bowl and turn the vacuum on. If it turns on, then you’re all set. If it doesn’t send us an email at service@greatvacs.com and we can help.

If you have a Rainbow E Series Black you will notice that it has a red light on the front. If the red light turns on the vacuum won’t turn on. In this case there is probably a problem with the hose, wand, or power nozzle. Make sure the hose is plugged into the vacuum, the hose is plugged into the wands, and that the wands are plugged into the power head. If all the connections are clean, snug, and free of moisture you can check the bottom of your power nozzle. If the brush roll is clogged it will prevent the vacuum from turning on. If you check all of that and the vacuum still won't turn on, email us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help!

How to Easily Replace Your Kirby Vacuum Belt

Are you having trouble replacing your Kirby Vacuum belt? Well, in this video we will show you everything you'll need to know to do this at home.

  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Instructions

The first thing you want to do is lift up this lid.

If you look at the power head you will see a sticker. It has a green arrow labeled "belt on" and a red arrow labeled "belt off."

The round piece on the front is the belt lifter. If you look at the top you’ll see that it also has a green arrow.

Now lift the metal tab on the front of the belt lifter and it turns into a handle!

Now you can easily turn it to line up the red arrows.

Fold the tab back down and then turn the release lever. The power head will drop down.

Look inside the head and you’ll see that the belt is hooked around a hook. This is how the belt lifter removes the belt from the vacuum and allows you to remove the power head.

Turn the tabs on the power head to “unlock.”

Now you can remove the plate. This gives you full access to the brush roll and belt.

Grab the brush roll and belt and pull them out.

Slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on.

Pay close attention to the tabs on each side of the brush roll. They sides are numbered from 1 to 3 and one side is also larger than the other.

The numbers are fine adjustments for how high or low you want your brush roll to sit. If you have a really high pile carpet you’ll probably want them both on 1. If you have a lot of low pile carpet or hard floors you’ll probably want it on 3. Most of the time we have them on 2.

So set both of the tabs to the desired number. Slide the brush roll in. Remember that one side is larger than the other, so it only fits correctly one way!

To get the belt back on the hook, use your belt lifter and line up the green arrows.

Now grab your belt and hold it snug against the brush roll.

Turn the belt lifter towards red and you should be able to see and feel when it grabs the belt. Keep twisting until the red arrows are lined up.

Reinstall the plate on the bottom of the power head. The front slides into the slots on the power head and the two tabs go in the back.

Lock it in place.

To make the power head easier to get back on, raise the height of the vacuum all the way up with the height adjuster.

Hook the hooks on the back of the power head onto the bar on the vacuum.

Pivot it up and then lock it in place.

Turn the belt lifter to line up the green arrows.

Close the lid and you’re done!
