How To Remove a Kirby Vacuum Head

People love their Kirby vacuums! However, after a while some people feel like it just isn’t picking up like it used to. The most common reason is that the head was not taken off properly! Why would you ever need to take the head off? Well, you might need to change the belt, you might need to attach the hose, or you might be shampooing your carpet. Whatever the reason, you’ll want to take it off correctly. In this video we show you how!

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Instructions

The first thing you’ll need to do is raise the head up to the highest setting.

Then lift the lid.

You’ll see two green arrows lined up on the front. Turn the belt lifter until the two red arrows are aligned. If you don’t do this, you will have problems later! Never take the head off if the red arrows are not aligned!

Now, release the head.

At this point you can do whatever it is you need to do. When you’re done, it’s time to put the head back on.

Start by making sure the red arrows are still lined up.

If you look at the back of the head you’ll see two hooks. These hooks go on the bar on the vacuum.

Hook the head on the bar and pivot it up.

Latch it in place.

Turn the belt lifter so the green arrows are aligned.

You’re done! You can get back to vacuuming!

If you notice a sudden drop in vacuum power, you might have forgotten to turn the belt lifter to red before removing the head. When you do this the belt falls off and is disengaged. If this happened, don’t worry! We will show you how to put the belt back on.

Begin by taking off the bottom plate. The belt will just be hanging.

Use one hand to hold the belt tight against the brush roll. With the other hand turn the belt lifter to red to grab it.

If you look inside you’ll see that the belt is now stretched and hooked inside. Go ahead and replace the bottom plate and it is ready to be put back on your vacuum! Once it's attached, spin the belt lifter to green. Crisis averted!

Miscellaneous Kirby Vacuum Attachment Functions - Tips & Tricks

Kirby is a high-end vacuum clean, and as such it can actually do a lot more than most people know about! In this video we go over a few things that most people never figure out!

First, let’s see how you can use your Kirby to clean the tops of your ceiling fans! Start by putting both wands on.

Then add the curved wand.

Finish it off with the wall tool. The shape will allow to easily reach the top surface of the ceiling fan from the floor!

The next fun trick is vacuuming your mattress! Take note that the longer the hose the more power you lose. If you want to do some serious deep cleaning, you’ll need to put on the hand-held tool. Start by removing the handle. (There’s a release at the back of the vacuum.)

Snap on the “hand held tool.”

And then snap your Kirby bag in place.

Instead of having the hose on you’ll actually have the head on for maximum cleaning power. Simply turn it on and you can vacuum your mattress, stairs, or anything else that needs a really good, deep clean.

What if you have all hardwood floors at home? A lot of people prefer a canister vacuum over and upright. With the right selection of wands and attachments, you can turn your upright Kirby into a canister vacuum!

Did you know your Kirby vacuum can blow air? It can be used as a leaf blower, inflator, or for dusting things like a keyboard! The first thing you’ll do is remove the bag.

Now remove the hose.

Then take the hose and line up the arrow with the notch on the vacuum. Twist the hose and it should be securely attached where the bag used to be.

There is another attachment that you’ll need to place on the front where the hose was.

Another cool thing your Kirby can do on the blow setup is shampooing carpets! Just have it set up to blow and add on the shampooer attachment.

Finally!  A vacuum made for women.   Lighter, Easier, Faster!

The Prolux Bagless Backpack vacuum's new patent pending technology is the world’s only bagless backpack vacuum where the user can hardly feel it, because not only does it only weight 8 lbs, but about 80% of the weight is put on the users hips. This makes cleaning fast and easy (2x faster than standard uprights) and is especially beneficial for woman users.

Even though women still clean more than men, most vacuums are still bulky, heavy, and require a lot of upper body strength. Basically, most vacuum cleaners are still designed for men.

Introducing the new technology of the Prolux bagless backpack vacuum! It is designed to cut cleaning time in half and be so light that the user can barely feel it.

As the inventors of this patent pending technology, how did we come up with it? From my wife, of course! One day, while climbing up the stairs my wife pulled a stomach muscle. Angrily, she said “Being in the vacuum industry, why don’t you invent a vacuum made for women and one that cleans faster!?”

The cleaning faster ideas was easy. Backpack vacuums! They clean about twice as fast as the standard upright vacuum. However, the problem with most backpack vacuums is that they’re heavy and bulky. Most women find them very uncomfortable. Even though I have about three times the upper body strength of my wife, she could hold a baby for an hour with no problem, but it would kill my back. How was this possible?

Research shows that, while men have more upper body strength, women have larger hips and knees and a lower center of gravity. Current backpack vacuum technology had the motor at the top, which placed all the weight at the user’s shoulders. Most of them don’t place ANY weight on the user’s hips.

The 8-pound Prolux bagless backpack vacuum is the world’s only backpack vacuum with the motor at the bottom of the unit, which allows about 80% of the weight to rest on the user’s hips.

It has a tool for nearly every job and amazing 102 cfm of cyclonic power, this vacuum is designed to cut your cleaning time in half.

If you’re ready to do something else with your time, consider the patent pending Prolux bagless backpack vacuum today!

Don't forget, GreatVacs is the only authorized dealer of Prolux products, so if you need any parts, supplies or have any questions, email as service@greatvacs.com or leave a comment! You can also head on over to our YouTube channel to see more educational videos on all Prolux products.
