How to Diagnose a Clog On Any Prolux Upright Model

Does your Prolux Upright model have poor suction? Is your brushroll spitting dirt back out on your clean floors? If you answered yes... you may have a clog. In the following short video we show you how to diagnose where the clog may be located at.

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Supplies

  • Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions

Plug your vacuum in and turn it on. Check the suction at the back by opening the small door and feeling for the air flow.

If that's good take the hose off and check the suction at the end.

If the hose has good suction, attach the wand and test that as well.

If the suction is poor in any of those areas you know that that’s where the clog is! I've you've found the clog you should be able to remove it.

If you’ve check all of those areas and haven’t found a clog, but the suction is still poor, you can check one final area: the fill tube on the side that connects the main wand to the power head.

To check for a clog here you’ll want to press the foot pedal and then turn the vacuum upside down. You can then remove the two screws from the metal bottom plate and remove it.

This will allow you to check this full tube and remove any clogs.

If you’ve checked all of these potential clog locations and the suction is still poor or the brush roll is spitting dust back out go ahead an email us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you troubleshoot!

How to Change Out a Brushroll and Belt for Any Prolux Upright Model

Today we’re going over how to change a belt and brushroll on a Prolux Upright model. We show a 7000, but this technique works for a 6000 all the way up a 9000.

  • Replacement belt
  • Replacement brushroll (if you need one, email us at service@greatvacs.com)

Instructions

To remove the brushroll and belt you will need to press the foot release pedal and turn your vacuum upside down.

This will give you access to the underside so that you can remove the bottom plate.

Remove the two screws and side them aside in a safe location.

Then, lift off the metal bottom plate and set aside.

While you’re in there you should check for any clogs or debris stuck in the vacuum, like in the orange funnel and grey tube. You can also remove any clumps of dirt from under the brush roll.

To remove the belt, lift up the flap that protects the motor.

Use your fingers and slide the belt off the motor shaft.

There is a metal C-piece on the brushroll that you need to remove. Remember that the longer end goes in the back.

Once you have the belt off you can just take the brushroll out. Now you’re ready to put the new brushroll in with the new belt.

Install the belt first by sliding it over the motor shaft.

Don’t forget to close the plastic flap!

Take the brushroll and slide the belt over it. Then just pop the brushroll back into place.

Once it’s in place, rotate the brushroll a couple rotations to make sure the belt is aligned correctly.

Take the metal C-pice and put it back in place.

Replace the metal bottom plate and screws, being careful not to over-tighten! They should be snug, but not so tight they break the plastic.

Now you’re done! You’ve successfully replace the brushroll and belt of a Prolux upright model!

How to Change the Headlights on a Prolux Upright Vacuum

If you own a Prolux Upright Vacuum cleaner, you already know how handy the built-in headlights are. If they happen to go out, here’s how you can replace them at home with just a few simple tools. This will work for any Prolux Upright vacuum cleaner, from the 6000 all the way to the 9000 model. If you need to purchase new headlights, send us an email at service@greatvacs.com with your vacuum model information, and we’ll get you taken care of.

Tools

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Replacement headlights (if you need these email us at service@greatvacs.com)

Instructions

Remove the brush roll and belt to start – if you need help you can watch this video.

There are 6 screws that you need to remove to get the plastic piece off. Put these screws in a safe location.

When you remove the back two screws there is a smaller plastic housing piece that will be removable. Turn it over and there are two connectors that go to the head lights. Make sure to unplug these BEFORE removing the rest of the plastic housing.

There are two screws holding each black plastic light housing to the vacuum cleaner head. Remove those and set them aside. Now you can remove the head lights.

For the 7000, 8000, and 9000 models the replacement headlights include the whole assembly. For the 6000 model there will be individual bulbs, but the installation works the same.

Once the old headlights are removed you can replace them with the new ones. Make sure the wires are toward the inside so that you can plug them in. Now, replace the screws.

Now you can replace the larger plastic housing piece. Make sure to feed the wires up through it.

Plug the wires into the motherboard and then replace all of the screws. You’re done!
