How To Replace A Rainbow Vacuum Latch

A common problem with Rainbow vacuums is the water bowl latch breaking. Today, Andrew shows you how to replace one!

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Tools

  • Hammer
  • Small Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver

Instructions

Start by placing your small Phillips head screwdriver at the end of the brass pin and hit the end with your hammer.

You can pull the pin out the rest of the way by hand and this allows the latch to detach from the vacuum.

To attach your new latch, make sure you have the spring shown above.

Set the spring inside the latch.

Now slide the pin into the latch so that the spring is over the end as shown.

Align the latch on the vacuum and slide the pin through the rest of the way, making sure to get it through the other side of the spring.

Take your flat head screwdriver and firmly press on the pin to push it all the way into the latch.

This is what the latch and spring should look like when you’re finished.

How To Replace A Rainbow Vacuum Latch

How To Replace A Rainbow Vacuum Latch

A common problem with Rainbow vacuums is the water bowl latch breaking. Today, Andrew shows you how to replace one!

The squeegee tool has two parts: one is a scrubbing brush and the other is used to suck up water. A lot of people use their Rainbow to mop their floors!

Remember to NEVER vacuum up wet spills with an electric hose! Dustin was sure to use the non-electric hose on his Rainbow vac for this demonstration. After the correct hose is hooked up you can attach your squeegee tool.

Once it’s attached you can simply vacuum up the spill! Whether you want to scrub and mop your floors or simply clean up, it only takes seconds to attach your squeegee to your Rainbow vacuum!

How To Replace A Kirby Vacuum Belt

Kirby owners often ask us how to change the vacuum cleaner’s belt! In this video, Dustin shows you exactly how to do it!

Instructions

How do you know when to change your belt? Well, if you’re vacuuming your floor and the indicator light starts coming on and off or you smell a burning smell that usually means the belt is starting to slip. Time to replace it!

The first thing you need to do is take off the head. You have to do this part right, because if you do it wrong the belt won’t engage when you put it back on the machine. Start this process by lifting the lid.

You’ll see two green arrows that are aligned. Spin the belt lifter so that the two red arrows are aligned.

Now that the belt is disengaged you can release the head - it will drop down and you can remove it.

If you look inside you’ll see that the belt is stretched up.

Next, turn the levers on the back of the head, which allows you to remove the bottom plate.

Then turn the belt lifter back to green to release the belt.

Remove the brush roll and old belt.

Take the time to familiarize yourself with the Kirby brush roll. Each side is numbered, which allows you to adjust how high or low it sits in the head. If you have a lower carpet you will probably pick a higher number so that it makes better contact.

Slide the new belt on the brush roll.

Now put the brush roll back in the head, making sure the set both sides to the desired number.

With one hand hold the belt firmly against the brush roll and, with the other, turn the belt lifter back to the red arrows.

Replace your bottom plate.

Take note of the two hooks on the back of the head. These will need to hook onto the bar on the vacuum.

Tilt the head up and latch it in place.

Finally, turn the belt lifter back to green on green. You’re done!

How To Replace A Kirby Vacuum Belt

How To Replace A Kirby Vacuum Belt

Kirby owners often ask us how to change the vacuum cleaner’s belt! In this video, Dustin shows you exactly how to do it!

These replacements head kits will work on all models of D3, D4, and SE. There are two types of connection: button lock and friction fit.

The kit uses friction fit to attach to your Rainbow hose. You simply insert the hose and twist to the right. To take it off just untwist it!

The power nozzle comes with a standard two-prong cord and you connect it the same way as you would the original Rainbow head.

To vacuum, turn on your Rainbow vacuum and then turn on the power head.

The power head features a stainless-steel brush roll and removable strips for the nylon brushes. It also has the red reset button at the back. The geared belt doesn’t slip and doesn’t need to be replaced.

Another great feature? It’s a standard head so the parts are readily available! It also has an access panel so you can easily see if anything is wrapped around your brush roll. One of the biggest power head killers is carpet fibers! When they get wrapped around your brush roll the motor can get burned out.
