Make Your Central Vacuum the Most Powerful Vacuum!

Your central vacuum not working like it used to? Want your central vacuum to deep clean even the toughest cleaning jobs? What this video as we show you how you can easily do that and turn your central vacuum system into one of the most powerful cleaners in the world! In this video we show the Prolux CV12000 with 25 Year Warranty.

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Some central vacuum systems use a power brush that is driven by the air, or the suction, of your central vacuum unit. Some people notice that their head might not be picking up as well anymore, so they order a new one, although there wasn’t actually anything wrong with their old one! If this was your situation, you actually need more power!

Prolux just released their new CV12000 model, which has brand new technology that can really fix this problem. We are REALLY excited about this thing! It uses new 2 stage motors that produce over 130 cfm of air flow and are rated to work on homes up to 12,000 square feet!

In this video, Dustin shows you how fast your power brush should be spinning. If it’s NOT, then check to make sure nothing is wrapped around the roll. If it’s fine, that might be a sign you need to upgrade to a more powerful central vacuum.

Not convinced yet? Watch Dustin vacuum thick, plush carpet! This normally really slows down brush rolls! If your brush roll doesn’t spin that quick and can’t vacuum thick carpet that fast, don’t just go out and buy another brush roll. If your central vacuum is more than 8-10 years old, it’s probably time to upgrade to a more power central vacuum unit! The technology has really advanced and the newer systems are overall better.

Using a Rainbow Vacuum as an Air Purifier - Comparison

Over the years we’ve serviced or sold thousands of Rainbow vacuums. As a result, we get asked certain questions quite a bit. One of these questions is about whether or not you can use a Rainbow vacuum as an air purifier. Today, Dustin talks about if you can and if you should!

Can You Use a Rainbow Vacuum as an Air Purifier?

Here we have three vacuums that represent just about all the different models of Rainbow vacuum out there. The SE on the left is similar to the D3 and D4. All three have 1 stage filtration – air comes in and is filtered through water. The E-series, in the middle, has added HEPA filtration for a total of two stages of filtration.  The 2-speed, on the right, is the same.

So, can you use these as air purifiers? The short answer is yes! Different models will have different efficiency, though. You will also need to take into consideration the sound the vacuum makes as it runs. Is it something you would really want to hear running for hours on end?

After listening to the sounds of the SE and E-series run you will notice how amazingly quiet the E2 2-speed is when you run it on air purifier mode! It’s a lot quieter, but doesn’t move as much air.

Should You Use a Rainbow Vacuum as an Air Purifier?

Okay, now that you know you CAN use your Rainbow vacuum as an air purifier you can ask the question “Should I?” What it boils down to is that a Rainbow is a $2000 vacuum cleaner. Why would you use a $2000 appliance to purify air when you can buy a dedicated air purifier that works way better for under $200?  There’s really no point in putting all of those hours of run time on a high-end appliance!

The price difference between the E-series 2-speed and a regular E2 (without the air purifier speed) is enough that you could buy yourself a good air purifier and have money left over.

Here Dustin has a couple air purifiers that we sell at GreatVacs.com. They have up to 6 stages of filtration while the Rainbow vacuum only has 2. They also have a better fan and will do a better job of purifying your air. If you turn them on you’ll notice that they’re VERY quiet. Quieter than the Rainbow on air purifier mode, in fact! They will purify areas of up to 3,000 square feet! They have washable HEPA filters, they have ionization to help pull dust from the air, and they can remove odors.

To recap: Can you use a Rainbow vacuum to purify air? Yes. Should you? Probably not.

Model Differences on Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners

Have you ever wondered what the feature differences were between the different models of Rainbow Vacuum cleaner? In this video Dustin goes over the D3, D4, SE, SE PN2, E-series, and two E2 Two-Speeds.

D3

The first vacuum is the Rainbow D3. This particular one is about 30 years old and is your basic Rainbow vacuum. It’s great for vacuuming up wet spills because, like all Rainbows, it uses water to filter. We don’t work on D3s quite as often due to their age and the difficulty in finding replacement parts.

D4

After the D3, Rainbow came out with the D4 model. The head and hose are still pretty similar to the D3, but they changed the canister quite a bit. One of the main differences is that the D4 has significantly more power. Parts are still easy to find for the D4, which is also a huge advantage.

SE

After the D4 came the SE. The D4, SE, and SE PN2 all have the same amount of power and the canisters are very similar. Probably the biggest differences is that the decals have a different color. Now, the biggest difference between the D4 and SE is that the SE has an electric hose instead of a long electric cord like the D4.  If you do need to vacuum up something wet you should switch to the non-electric hose!

SE PN2

Next came the SE PN2! They improved the power nozzle and you can note a more modern shape. They also added a trigger on the hose, which means if you let go the head stops vacuuming!

E2

Then came the E-series E2. This vacuum gives you a lot of bang for your buck, because they made a whole bunch of improvements! They added a HEPA filter, gave it more power, put cushioning under the handle, and the water bowls are spring-loaded and snap in place.

E2 2-speed

After that came the E2 2-speed. This vacuum, as the name suggests, has 2 speeds. One can be used as an air purifier and is very quiet. The other speed is for your regular vacuuming.

E2 2-speed (blue)

The last one is also an E2 2-speed, but it has blue decals. This one has a quieter motor and is more expensive.

How To Use Rainbow Vacuum Wands

A common question from Rainbow vacuum owners is: “What is the correct way to use Rainbow wands?” Sometimes people are vacuuming and the wands falls off, or sometimes they have them in the wrong order. In this video, Dustin goes over how to use your Rainbow wands correctly!

Instructions

There are two types of wand connections you may see in Rainbow vacuums - friction fit and button lock. The D3, D4, SE and SE Pan 2 models all use friction fit. You just take your wand, shove it in as far as it goes, and then twist to the right. It shouldn’t come off while your vacuuming, but if it does you probably haven’t twisted it hard enough. To remove it simply untwist!

The newer E style Rainbow vacuums use a button lock. The wands all just snap together. To release, just push the button and pull them apart. Fortunately, both style of wand will work on the E series machines!

You can use any of your tools, except the floor tool, without the wands. Floor tools need the wands to be attached in the correct order. You need to start with the curved wand that is at the end of the hose. If your hose didn’t come with it already attached, don’t worry! You can attach it my simply twisting and shoving at the same time.

Now attach the short, straight wand.

The attach the curved wand. You will notice that this wand has two bumps at one end.

Finally, attach the floor tool to the end with the bumps. Those bumps allow the floor tool to swivel. You're ready to vacuum!
