How To Clean A Water Separator On A Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner

Have you cleaned the water separator on your Rainbow Vacuum? Do you know how? We get asked this question a lot! Here’s a quick video that shows you how simple this routine maintenance is!

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Instructions

Unscrew the brass nut at the very bottom.

Now you can remove the water separator! You can take it over to the sink, grab a brush, and scrub all the nooks and crannies to get the dirt out. You can get by doing this about 2-3 times per year.

Wait, are you having trouble getting that nut off? Sometimes, after a while, it gets a bit stuck on there and you can’t remove it with just your fingers. If this is the case you’ll need to hold the water separator firmly with one hand and use a wrench or a flathead screwdriver to loosen the nut.

Once you have it apart go ahead and clean up the threads as well. You can use a little WD-40 when replacing the nut so that it will come off easier next time.

On occasion, when people are replacing the nut, it stops and they assume it’s tightened all the way. If the water separator can spin freely while the nut is held in place, then the nut has not been tightened enough! You want the water separator AND the nut to have to spin together. You also want to be careful not to over-tighten, as this can bind up the motor.
