Care and Maintenance for Prolux Upright Vacuums

Owning any vacuum requires maintenance. At GreatVacs we understand the importance of understanding how to properly maintain your vacuum. In this video, we go over some basic maintenance tips to keep your Prolux Upright vacuum in tip-top shape. This will work on any Prolux upright vacuum cleaner model.

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Instructions

Start by removing the front cover.

To remove the bag you will need to grab the cardboard piece with your hand and pull straight off. To replace the bag with a new one, just reverse the process! Grab the cardboard and push straight on.

To check the pre-motor HEPA filter you can just pull it straight out. When inserting a new filter, be sure to slide it straight on both tracks. It should slide in easily with no resistance.

To check and/or replace the post-motor filter you will need to lay your vacuum cleaner down. There is a sliding mechanism on the side that you need to slide “up” to unlock the cover. You will then be able to pull the cover up and off to access the filter.

To replace the cover after switching out the filter just insert the peg on one side into the slot, lower the cover into place, and slide the lock back down.

If you need to remove or clean your brush roll, we have made a video specifically for that that you can watch >>> here!

Converting A Prolux Central Vacuum Hose

When you buy a Prolux Central Vacuum Hose or Hose Kit from GreatVacs, the hose comes standard with a U.S. 110 Volt 2-prong pigtail cord. Also included in the kit, however, is everything you need to convert your hose to a 2-prong direct connection that plugs into the wall with your hose.

We sell several styles of hoses that fit almost any central vacuum system. Most of our hoses come in 30’ or 35’ lengths and are either non-electric or 2 or 3 way switched. In this video, Kyle goes over some of the differences between the hoses, and you can choose the right one for you!

Tools

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Needle nose pliers
  • The provided conversion kit
  • The Prolux hose

Instructions

Start by opening the plastic bag and removing the contents. Inside you will find instructions, the direct connection plug, and a safety plug. If you have any questions, please refer to the instructions!

Next, remove the hose cover. Use the screwdriver to push in the tab and then you will be able to slide the cover off.

Now you will be able to see the pigtail connection plug and its safety plug. Go ahead and remove the safety plug.

Take your needle nose pliers and pull the wires out of the pigtail cord terminals. Set the pigtail cord to the side.

Now take your direct connection plug and its safety plug and we can get it installed. Take note that the plug will be facing in the direction of the inlet where the hose gets plugged in.

Plug the wires into the direct connection plug and set it into the groove.

Then grab the safety plug and put that in.

Once everything is in position you can slide the cover back on. You will hear the tab snap back into place.

Congratulations! You successfully converted a pigtail to a direct connect!

The Different Types of Central Vacuum Hoses We Offer

We sell several styles of hoses that fit almost any central vacuum system. Most of our hoses come in 30’ or 35’ lengths, and are either non-electric or 2 or 3 way switched. In this video, Kyle goes over some of the differences between the hoses, and you can choose the right one for you!

The first hose we’ll go over is the universal premium turbo-style hose! We also sell universal standard style hoses which you can see here.

This type of hose is not electric, so it can’t support any kind of electric power head. Instead, it uses a turbo-style head, which uses the suction from the vacuum to make the brush roll spin. This works great on hard floors and low-pile carpet.

The other type of hose we are going over is the electric hose. We have our own GV brand as well as a Prolux premium hose. Both of these are electric and will support and electric power head, which works better on carpet than a turbo-style power head. If you have mostly carpet, we recommend going with an electric power head if your system supports it.

Both of these hoses come in pigtail or direct connect styles, so they will work for the connection style you have. All of the hoses we sell work with the standard sized hose outlet (1.5 inch.)

Since these are electric hoses you can control both the vacuum motor and the power head by the hose handle switch.
