Which models is Rainbow no longer making parts for?

This is going to effect older models, which is normal for manufacturers to do as they get older, so if you happen to have one of these models you may want to look into trading in or upgrading your model.  Below are the models this will effect.

1. D4 and D4C Models

2. SE Model

3. SE PN2 / SE PE Models

Which parts have been discontinued?

Unfortunately, ALL parts for these models have been discontinued and Rainbow is no longer making them.  Parts like motor parts, water separators, water bowls, wheel dollies, hoses, wands, and power nozzle parts.  You will still be able to get Rainbow belts as those are still used on some of the newer E and E2 models as well.  For the SE PN2 model the power nozzle belts, brushroll, power nozzle plate, and motor are still available as the newer E series 1 speed parts will fit the SE PN2 as well.

How do you get these parts if you need them?

  • As one of the largest buyers of Rainbow parts we were notified before this decision was made and we stocked up on a lot of parts.  We also bought over 200 spare canisters we are using for parts, so at least for now we can get parts if you need them.  If you know you will need a part for your Rainbow soon then please email us at service@greatvacs.com before they are all gone and we can let you know pricing and availability.
  • After market parts are still available.  Did you know at GreatVacs we make a lot of our own aftermarket parts for Rainbows?  We like to think they are the same quality or better than the genuine Rainbow parts (like the brand new hose, wand, and power nozzle kit below we make for Rainbow D4, SE, and SE PN2 models).  It's been updated with new tech and we think they clean even better than the original set up.  In fact if you want to upgrade your current power nozzle setup (and yours is still in good condition) we offer trade-ins on your old one.

  • We can also get aftermarket bearings, gaskets, water bowls, wheels, hoses, cords, and more for these models.  Of course, we still have a limited supply of some genuine parts as well, but availability varies depending on the demand for complete units we encounter.
  • Why does this announcement make us sad?  Because of our tens of thousands of Rainbow customers we have and for the fact the D4, SE, and SE PN2 models were clearly their favorite!  They loved these models!  They would always talk about how they were just work horses and clean and clean with no problems.  No filters to change they just worked and worked for decades.  In fact think about it for a second.  These vacuums came out in the 80's and most are still working just fine.  That kind of quality is very hard to find.
  • However, we do have a 3rd option.  The vacuum company Prolux just came out with a new water vacuum very similar to these older Rainbow models.  Why do we love it so much?  Because it totally reminds us of the D4, SE, and SE PN2 models (except it has way more power, better power nozzle, and uses UV light and Nano Silver which is designed to kill germs, bacteria, and viruses).  What is the quality like?  Amazing (yes we have checked it out in detail) which is why it comes with the LIFETIME warranty.  It's designed to be a work horse just like the D4 and SE models which is why we mention it here.  You can also trade in your old Rainbow on it (we will gladly use your old Rainbow for parts LOL).  If a trade in option interests you just reach our to our service department and we can let you know what we could offer.

Kirby bag falling off?

Does your Kirby bag keep falling off? Tired of your Kirby vacuum not turning on due to your bag? Well, in this video we will go over a few things that will help fix this problem. We will also show you the proper way to put your bag on.

Important Safety Tips

  • Always make sure your machine is unplugged and the power button is turned off, before servicing your vacuum.
  • Always make sure your hands are dry and free from moisture before servicing your machine.
  • Be sure to wear gloves when servicing your machine to prevent any cuts or scrapes.
  • If you are uncomfortable working on your vacuum, please don’t hesitate to contact us at service@greatvacs.com and we can help you through the process or you can send it into us to fix it for you.

Instructions

If you take the bag off by twisting counter-clockwise you will notice a small switch.

This switch needs to be pushed forward to engage the safety switch. This happens when the bag is attached properly.

You will also notice a tab on the end of the bag. This is how your bag engages the safety switch!

To make sure you bag is attached properly, take note of the brass pins on the vacuum and the three slots at the end of your bag.

Line the bag up on the brass pins and twist clockwise to lock it in place.

Maybe you've noticed that your bag pops out of place too easily! That could be a sign of a worn out part somewhere in the bag area. If that’s the case go ahead and send us an email with more details. Send a picture of the inside of the bag area and the attachment area if possible.

How to Easily Replace Your Kirby Vacuum Belt

Are you having trouble replacing your Kirby Vacuum belt? Well, in this video we will show you everything you'll need to know to do this at home.

The first thing you want to do is lift up this lid.

If you look at the power head you will see a sticker. It has a green arrow labeled "belt on" and a red arrow labeled "belt off."

The round piece on the front is the belt lifter. If you look at the top you’ll see that it also has a green arrow.

Now lift the metal tab on the front of the belt lifter and it turns into a handle!

Now you can easily turn it to line up the red arrows.

Fold the tab back down and then turn the release lever. The power head will drop down.

Look inside the head and you’ll see that the belt is hooked around a hook. This is how the belt lifter removes the belt from the vacuum and allows you to remove the power head.

Turn the tabs on the power head to “unlock.”

Now you can remove the plate. This gives you full access to the brush roll and belt.

Grab the brush roll and belt and pull them out.

Slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on.

Pay close attention to the tabs on each side of the brush roll. They sides are numbered from 1 to 3 and one side is also larger than the other.

The numbers are fine adjustments for how high or low you want your brush roll to sit. If you have a really high pile carpet you’ll probably want them both on 1. If you have a lot of low pile carpet or hard floors you’ll probably want it on 3. Most of the time we have them on 2.

So set both of the tabs to the desired number. Slide the brush roll in. Remember that one side is larger than the other, so it only fits correctly one way!

To get the belt back on the hook, use your belt lifter and line up the green arrows.

Now grab your belt and hold it snug against the brush roll.

Turn the belt lifter towards red and you should be able to see and feel when it grabs the belt. Keep twisting until the red arrows are lined up.

Reinstall the plate on the bottom of the power head. The front slides into the slots on the power head and the two tabs go in the back.

Lock it in place.

To make the power head easier to get back on, raise the height of the vacuum all the way up with the height adjuster.

Hook the hooks on the back of the power head onto the bar on the vacuum.

Pivot it up and then lock it in place.

Turn the belt lifter to line up the green arrows.

Close the lid and you’re done!

Need some new belts? We sell them here!

What about a new brush roll? We got those, too!
