- T25 torx bit
First, disassemble your Kirby vacuum.
Once disassembled, you need to get the black cover off the back. Use the T15 bit and remove the screw for the cord holder. As you’re removing the screws set them in a safe location and remember which ones go where.
To remove the screw by the on/off button you need to switch to a T20. Remove the black cover and set aside.
Now, moving to the front of your Kirby vacuum, lift the lid. There are two screws holding on the main body cover. Use the T20 bit to remove them.
Move back around to the back and, using the same bit, remove the two screws that are holding on the main body cover.
Once the cover is removed there are two T25 screws holding in the pivot assembly. This is a great opportunity to tighten the screws if needed, or replace the pivot assembly.
On the back left side there is a little slot that has a tooth in it. Take that out and just like that, you can take your pivot assembly out.
Once you have the old pivot assembly out you can replace it with the new one.
Slide the new pivot assembly in, remembering that there is the slot that the tooth needs to go in.
This is important! As you’re putting it on, there are holes that you need to center directly above the screw holes. If it is too far forward or back it won’t allow the transmission to engage properly. We recommend just hand tightening the screws and then finishing with the T25.
Now, reinstall the main body cover. Switch out your torque bit with the T20 and replace the four screws that hold the cover in place.
Slide the black cover back into place over the cord holder. There is a slot for it to slide into. The screw to hold the cord holder in place is the smaller black T15 screw.
Finally, replace the larger black T20 screw at the bottom. Congratulations! You’re done.
