If you have appliances that use electricity in your home you are at risk for an electrical fire. These types of fires can be common and can occur with many appliances that we use everyday including mixers, blow dryers, lamps and even Rainbow vacuums.
It is important to understand how to react in case an electrical fire starts in your home or office area to be able to prevent much damage from occurring. If an electrical fire starts you should unplug the appliance that is on fire. Then you will need to turn off the main electrical units if the power plug is burning. You will do this in your home’s electrical box.
You can smother the fire with items such as flour or baking soda. It is recommended that every home have a small fire extinguisher in case of electrical fires or kitchen fires. This should be made easily accessible in case it needs to be used.
If flames are out of control and large do not try to put out the fire yourself. Evacuate your house and make sure that others in your home including your pets evacuate as well. Next, call the fire department directly to put out the fire.
