If you own a Kirby Vacuum you probably already know that they can have a lifespan of more than 25 years. But, the vacuum must be maintained and cared for properly for it to last for years and maintain its cleaning ability. There are 3 important steps that should be followed to care for your Kirby throughout the years.
Vacuum only on approved surfaces: Don’t use the Kirby on concrete or concrete like surfaces (commonly found in garages or basements). This will break down the brushes. Also, never use the vacuum on damp or wet surfaces. Humidity from the damp materials can ruin the vacuum from the inside out.
Store the vacuum properly: Don’t store your vacuum in a place that is damp or experiences extreme high or low temperatures. A dry and temperate closet is the best place to store your Kirby. Avoid storing the vacuum in places that are exposed to insects and rodents such as garages and cellars.
Switch between gears properly: Don’t leave your vacuum in gear when you power off the vacuum or switch between gears. Be sure to place the vacuum into the Neutral position before making any changes.
Also, be sure to have your model-inspected regular as the maintenance booklet suggests. Small part swap outs will ensure that the model works well for years.
