Installing a new belt on a Kirby Vacuum is one of the basic elements of regular vacuum maintenance. By maintaining a vacuum properly, the life span of the vacuum and the efficiency of the cleaning strength will be improved significantly.

The first step to change the belt on your model is to turn off and unplug the vacuum to prevent shock or injury. Then, with your hand, push down the adjustment handle on the right side of the front of the vacuum. Next, you will need to unlock the accessory type lock that can be found under the hood area. This will allow you to completely remove the front end of the vacuum.

After the front end of the vacuum has been removed you will be able to access the current belt by lifting the belt lifter. Next, remove the latch on the back and release the roller plate on the backend of the Kirby Vacuum. You will then be able to take it off.

Now you will be able to remove the belt and remove and residue or upholstery that may have been caught around the roller plate as well. If you have a model with a light that indicates that a belt needs to be replaced you will need to be sure that the new belt is replaced with the indicator magnets placed correctly. If it is not placed correctly it may affect the efficiency in cleaning as well as a malfunctioning indicator light.

After the belt is placed correctly, put the roller bracket back on by sliding it into place and relocking the bracket latches. Then spin the belt slowly and it will catch and place itself in position. After this has been completed the vacuum top can be replaced and the belt change will be completed.
