Here at Great Vacs we sometimes get asked how you put together a canister vacuum. Sometimes people will buy buy a vacuum
from us and the head wont be running and its just a matter of making sure it is put together correctly and all the cords
firmly attached.

The first and most important thing is to understand the parts and what they are called.

Parts of a canister vacuum The main parts are: Main Canister Unit, Powered Hose, Main Long Wand and Powerhead (see picture).
All canisters are basically the same. In this example we are using a Filter Queen Canister.
First attach cord from Main Hose to canister Firmly attach the cord from the main hose to the canister (see picture).
This provides power to the main hose. Sometimes you will notice the power cord easily falls out this is common and easy to fix.
Simply get a pair of neddle nose pliers and adjust the the prongs outward. That will make it a tighter fit and wont fall out.
Connect cord from main wand to powered hose Simply connect the cord snugly from the main wand to the main cord.
Connect cord from Main Wand to Powerhead Simply connect the cord snugly from the main wand to the powerhead.
Now some models of canisters (rainbows for example) have a cord going from the powerhead that goes all the way up to the
main hose and connects. So in that case you can skip this step.
Trouble Shooting Now test your vacuum, the powerhead should turn on and everything should work pefectly. If the head
still does not come on some models of powerheads come with a reset switch. Simply press on the reset switch and it should work.
Some models also have an on/off switch on the handle where you hand goes. If all else follows just turn that on :) That is how
you put a canister vacuum together.
